Dubai Postal Code: Complete Area List and What to Enter on Forms (2026)
Quick Answer
Dubai does not have postal codes or ZIP codes. The UAE’s postal service, Emirates Post, delivers mail to P.O. Box numbers, not to postcodes. When a website or form asks for a zip or postal code of Dubai, enter 00000. Whether the field says “ZIP”, “postal code” or “zip/postal code”, Dubai’s answer is the same. This is the placeholder accepted by most international websites, banks and shipping companies.
| If a form asks for | Enter this |
| Postal code / ZIP code | 00000 |
| P.O. Box (if you have one) | Your P.O. Box number, for example “P.O. Box 12345” |
| City | Dubai |
| State / Province / Region | Dubai |
| Country | United Arab Emirates (country code: AE) |
| Phone | +971 followed by your number (Dubai landline area code: 04) |
The same answer applies to every area in Dubai, from Deira and Bur Dubai to Dubai Marina, Business Bay and Dubai Investment Park. There is no separate postal code for any neighbourhood.
Why Doesn’t Dubai Have a Postal Code?
Most countries use postcodes to sort mail by street or district. The UAE took a different route:
- Mail goes to P.O. Boxes. Emirates Post delivers letters and parcels to a numbered box at a post office, or to your home if you pay for a home delivery plan. The box number, not a postcode, tells Emirates Post where your mail goes.
- Couriers use your phone number and address. Companies such as Aramex, DHL and Emirates Post’s own courier service find you using your building name, area, landmark and mobile number.
- Buildings have Makani numbers. In Dubai, every building has a 10-digit Makani number that pinpoints its entrance. This does the job a postcode does in other countries, and more precisely.
Because of this, “Dubai postal code” isn’t a real code. It’s a question about what to type when a form won’t let you leave the field blank.

Beware of “Fake” Dubai Postal Codes
Search results and some websites show numbers such as 500001 or random five-digit codes for Dubai areas, and Google Maps sometimes shows codes for a few locations. These are not official Emirates Post postal codes. They may come from:
- Old or made-up website lists
- Automatic data from mapping services
- Codes that belong to other countries’ systems
Using a random code can cause problems with some international shipping systems or card billing checks. 00000 is the safe, widely used placeholder. If a form rejects 00000, try your P.O. Box number instead.
Dubai Postal Code vs P.O. Box vs Makani Number
These three are often confused. Here’s how they differ:
| Postal code | P.O. Box | Makani number | |
| Exists in Dubai? | No | Yes | Yes |
| Who issues it | Not applicable | Emirates Post | Dubai Municipality |
| What it is | Not applicable | A numbered mailbox at a post office | A 10-digit number for each building entrance |
| Used for | Forms only (enter 00000) | Receiving letters and parcels by post | Deliveries, taxis, emergency services |
| Example | 00000 | P.O. Box 12345, Dubai | 1234567890 |
| How to get it | Not needed | Rent from Emirates Post | Already assigned to your building |
How to Get a P.O. Box in Dubai
If you want to receive letters, bank cards or official mail, a P.O. Box is the most reliable option. According to Emirates Post’s personal P.O. Box plans:
| Plan | Price (VAT inclusive) | What you get |
| MyBox | AED 300 per year | A physical P.O. Box at an Emirates Post location, mail notifications and 1 additional agent for the first year |
| MyHome | AED 695 per year | Weekly delivery of unlimited mail and parcels to your home, while keeping your box number |
| MyHome Instant | AED 995 per year | Daily home delivery (up to 60 next-day deliveries a year) and 1 additional agent for the first year |
A one-time registration fee of AED 70 applies to all plans. You can choose contracts of 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 years, with optional auto-renewal.
Steps to rent a P.O. Box:
- Go to the Emirates Post website or app, or visit an Emirates Post branch.
- Choose your plan and the post office you want (for home plans, your delivery address).
- Provide your Emirates ID and contact details.
- Pay the fee.
- Collect your box key or activate your home delivery plan.
Many people don’t need their own box. Your employer, building management or company may already have a P.O. Box you can use for occasional mail. Ask them first.

What Is a Makani Number?
According to Gulf News, a Makani number is a 10-digit code that gives the exact location of a building’s entrance. “Makani” means “my location” in Arabic. Dubai Municipality launched the Makani system in 2015, and it now covers Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain.
Every villa, apartment building, office tower and hospital in these emirates has one. Emergency services use it to reach you faster, and it’s useful for taxis and deliveries.
How to find your Makani number:
- Look at the Makani plate at your building’s entrance
- Use the Makani app or the Makani website and tap your building on the map
- Ask your building reception or management
Adding your Makani number to a delivery note helps couriers find you, especially in large communities like International City, Discovery Gardens or DIP.
How to Write a Dubai Address Correctly
Because there’s no postcode, a complete address is what makes delivery work.
For couriers and online shopping (home delivery):
Full name
Flat or villa number, building name
Street name, area (for example: Al Barsha 1)
Nearest landmark
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Mobile: +971 5X XXX XXXX
Makani number (optional)
For Emirates Post mail (P.O. Box):
Full name
P.O. Box 12345
Dubai
United Arab Emirates
Tips:
- Always include a working UAE mobile number. Couriers usually call or message before delivery.
- Add a landmark, such as a metro station, mall, mosque or supermarket.
- For large communities, add the cluster or building number.
- Write Dubai in both the City and State fields if a form asks for both.
Zip or Postal Code of Dubai on International Websites
Different websites ask for this in different ways. Here’s what to enter:
| Where you are | What to enter |
| International online shops (Amazon US, eBay, AliExpress) | 00000 in ZIP code, Dubai as city and state |
| Adding a UAE bank card to PayPal, Apple, Google or other apps | 00000, or your P.O. Box if the billing address needs one |
| Visa, embassy or university application forms | 00000, or your P.O. Box, and your full residential address |
| Job applications and international banks | 00000, or “N/A” if the field accepts text |
| UAE websites (Amazon.ae, noon, government portals) | Usually no postal code needed; add building, area and Makani if asked |
Billing address tip: some card payments check your billing address. If a payment is declined, use the same address your bank has on file, often including your P.O. Box. Before retrying, it’s worth checking your balance in your bank’s app. Our online ATM balance inquiry guide shows the free ways to do it.
Dubai Code Postal (for French and Other Language Forms)
If you’re using a French form that asks for the “code postal” of Dubai, the answer is the same: 00000. The same applies in other languages, such as Postleitzahl in German or código postal in Spanish. Dubai has no postcode in any system.
