Mid-market reference rates for 5 November 2026, updated daily. Exchange houses and banks add a margin, so the remittance rate you receive is usually a little lower. A green arrow means 1 AED buys more of that currency than the day before.

Gold and silver prices: Gold API. Exchange rates: Exchange API, daily reference rates. Karat rates are calculated from the live international gold price at the fixed rate of AED 3.6725 per US dollar, with the usual Dubai retail premium, and are a close guide to the official reference rates, which can differ slightly. Chart history uses daily reference prices. Last updated -- UAE time.

Quick Answer: Gold Rate and Forex Rates Today in UAE

Today’s gold rate in UAE and Dubai is shown in the live panel at the top of this page, for 24K, 22K, 21K, 18K and 14K gold per gram in AED. The panel also shows the live gold price in US dollars, the silver rate, and today’s AED exchange rates for the most popular currencies, so you can follow the gold price in UAE today as it updates automatically through the day.

Seven things to know before you read the numbers:

Who sets the Dubai gold rate?
The Dubai Jewellery Group (formerly the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group) publishes reference retail rates several times a day, based on the international gold price.
Is the gold rate the same across the UAE?
Yes, broadly. Jewellers in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman and the other emirates generally follow the same reference rates as Dubai.
Which karat is most popular?
22K for jewellery, especially among buyers from South Asia, and 24K for bars and coins.
What do you pay on top of the gold rate?
Making charges, which vary by design and shop, plus 5% VAT on jewellery.
Why does the UAE gold rate move with the US dollar price?
Because the dirham is pegged to the dollar at AED 3.6725 = US$1, so the AED gold rate follows the international price almost exactly.
What forex rates does the panel show?
Today’s AED exchange rates for the Indian rupee, Pakistani rupee, Philippine peso, Bangladeshi taka, Sri Lankan rupee, Nepalese rupee, Egyptian pound, US dollar, British pound, euro, Gulf currencies and other major currencies, with a currency converter.
Why do exchange rates differ between providers?
Each bank and exchange house adds its own margin to the wholesale rate, and some charge a transfer fee. Always compare the amount the recipient gets.

In short: the gold rate tells you the price of the metal, but your final bill also depends on the making charge and VAT. For money transfers, the exchange rate tells you only half the cost; the fee is the other half.

How the Gold Rate in Dubai Is Calculated

Gold is traded globally in US dollars per troy ounce. Converting that international price into a UAE gold rate per gram takes three steps:

From the international gold price to the UAE rate per gramThe same three steps give the rate for every karat.
StartUS$ per ounceInternational gold price
Step 1× 3.6725Dollars to dirhams
Step 2÷ 31.1035Ounces to grams
Step 3× purity0.916 for 22K
ResultAED per gramFor that karat
  1. Convert dollars to dirhams. Multiply the international price by 3.6725, the fixed exchange rate set by the Central Bank of the UAE.
  2. Convert ounces to grams. Divide by 31.1035, the number of grams in one troy ounce.
  3. Adjust for purity. Multiply by the gold content of the karat, for example 0.916 for 22K.

Worked example: if the international gold price is US$4,200 an ounce:

Karat Calculation Pure-gold value per gram
24K 4,200 × 3.6725 ÷ 31.1035 AED 495.91
22K AED 495.91 × 0.916 AED 454.26
21K AED 495.91 × 0.875 AED 433.92
18K AED 495.91 × 0.750 AED 371.93

Why Published Rates Are Slightly Higher for Lower Karats

The rates jewellers display include a small trade margin, and that margin is proportionally larger for lower karats, which need more work to alloy. For example, on the morning of 7 October 2026 the Dubai reference rates were:

Karat Published rate (AED per gram) As a share of the 24K rate Actual gold content
24K 498.25 100% 99.9%
22K 461.50 92.6% 91.6%
21K 442.50 88.8% 87.5%
18K 379.25 76.1% 75.0%
14K 295.75 59.4% 58.5%

In other words, 22K, 21K, 18K and 14K gold are priced about 1% to 1.5% above their pure-gold content. This is normal, and it’s the same for every jeweller using the reference rates.

The 24K reference rate itself also sits a little above the pure international value, usually by around 1% to 2.5%, so the published 24K rate is normally slightly higher than the figure the formula above gives. The live panel includes this typical premium in its calculated rates.

When the Gold Rate Changes

  • Several times a day. The Dubai reference rates are typically refreshed in the morning, afternoon and evening, following the international market.
  • Not at the weekend. The international gold market closes from early Saturday to early Monday UAE time, so UAE rates generally stay unchanged over the weekend.
  • Faster during big news. US interest rate decisions, inflation data and geopolitical events can move the price sharply within minutes.

Gold Rate by Karat: 24K, 22K, 21K, 18K and 14K

Karat measures how much of the metal is pure gold, out of 24 parts. The hallmark stamped on UAE jewellery shows the purity in parts per thousand.

Karat Gold content Hallmark stamp Colour and durability Typical use in the UAE
24K 99.9% 999 Deep yellow, very soft Bars, coins, investment
22K 91.6% 916 Rich yellow, soft Traditional jewellery, bangles, wedding sets
21K 87.5% 875 Warm yellow, slightly harder Arabic and Gulf-style jewellery
18K 75.0% 750 Lighter yellow, white or rose; durable Diamond and gemstone jewellery, everyday pieces
14K 58.5% 585 Pale; very durable Budget and fashion jewellery
How much pure gold is in each karatShare of pure gold by weight. The rest is alloy metals such as copper, silver and zinc.
Pure gold content by karat: 24K 99.9%, 22K 91.6%, 21K 87.5%, 18K 75%, 14K 58.5%0%25%50%75%100%24K99.9%22K91.6%21K87.5%18K75%14K58.5%

Which karat should you buy?

  • For investment: 24K bars or coins, because you pay for almost pure gold and making charges are low.
  • For traditional jewellery: 22K, which keeps a rich colour and holds its resale value well.
  • For diamond rings and daily wear: 18K, which is strong enough to hold stones securely.

22K Gold Price in Dubai Today

22K gold is the most searched gold rate in the UAE, and the UAE gold rate today for 22K is the figure most jewellery buyers check first. It’s popular because it’s the traditional standard for jewellery among Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan buyers, who are some of the most active gold shoppers in the UAE.

  • 22K is 91.6% pure gold, which is why it’s often called “916 gold”.
  • The 22K rate is usually about 92.5% of the 24K rate, as the table above shows.
  • Resale: jewellers buy back 22K gold readily, because its purity is easy to test and widely trusted.

The live panel at the top of the page shows the gold rate in Dubai today for 22 carat gold, per gram, per tola and per 10 grams.

Live Gold Rate, Gold Price Chart and the International Market

What the Live Gold Price Means

The live gold price (also called the spot price) is the price at which gold is trading on the international market right now, quoted in US dollars per troy ounce. It’s the starting point for every gold rate in the UAE, and the panel above lets you watch the gold rate live alongside the gold price today in dollars.

  • Bid and ask: dealers quote a slightly lower price to buy from you (bid) and a slightly higher price to sell to you (ask). The difference is the spread.
  • Trading hours: gold trades almost around the clock from Monday to Friday, across London, New York and Asian markets.
  • Gold chart: the live gold price chart in the panel shows how the 24K rate has moved over the past week, month or year, which helps you judge whether today’s gold rate is high or low.

Gold Price in USA vs UAE

The gold price in the USA and in the UAE start from the same international spot price in US dollars. The difference is what’s added on top:

United States United Arab Emirates
Starting point International spot price, US$ per ounce Same spot price, converted at AED 3.6725
Retail unit Ounce, for coins and bars Gram, for jewellery and bars
Tax on jewellery State sales tax, which varies by state 5% VAT
Investment gold Rules vary by state Zero-rated for VAT at 99% purity or more

Gold’s Recent Record Highs

Gold has climbed to historic levels in recent years:

  • It passed US$1,000 an ounce for the first time in March 2008, and US$2,000 in August 2020.
  • It passed US$3,000 in March 2025 and US$4,000 in October 2025.
  • It passed US$5,000 for the first time in January 2026.
  • It reached an all-time high of US$5,589.38 an ounce on 28 January 2026, according to reporting by CBS News.

The pace is what stands out: it took gold about 12 years to climb from US$1,000 to US$2,000, but less than six years to go from US$2,000 to US$5,000.

Gold is climbing faster than everTime the international gold price took to add each US$1,000 an ounce, measured from the first time it passed each level.
Time gold took to add each US$1,000 an ounce: about 12 years from 1,000 to 2,000, about 4.5 years to 3,000, about 7 months to 4,000 and under 4 months to 5,00002468101214 yearsUS$1,000 to 2,000about 12 yearsUS$2,000 to 3,000about 4.5 yearsUS$3,000 to 4,000about 7 monthsUS$4,000 to 5,000under 4 months

What Moves the Gold Price

Factor Effect on gold
US interest rates Higher rates usually weigh on gold; cuts tend to support it
US dollar strength A weaker dollar usually lifts the gold price
Inflation Investors often buy gold to protect against rising prices
Geopolitical tension Conflicts and crises push buyers towards gold as a safe haven
Central bank buying Central banks bought more than 1,000 tonnes of gold a year in 2022, 2023 and 2024, according to the World Gold Council
Seasonal demand Jewellery demand rises around Diwali, Akshaya Tritiya, Eid and the wedding season

Gold Price Units: Gram, Tola, TT Bar and Ounce

Gold in the UAE is sold in several units. These conversions let you compare prices quickly:

Unit Weight in grams How to work out the price
1 gram 1 g The rate per gram
10 grams 10 g Rate per gram × 10
1 tola 11.6638 g Rate per gram × 11.6638
TT bar (ten tola) 116.64 g Rate per gram × 116.64
1 troy ounce 31.1035 g Rate per gram × 31.1035
1 kilo bar 1,000 g Rate per gram × 1,000

The TT bar (ten tola bar) is one of the most popular gold bars in the UAE, especially among South Asian buyers, because the tola is the traditional unit in India and Pakistan.

Gold Price in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah Today

The gold price in Sharjah today and the gold price in Abu Dhabi today are generally the same as in Dubai, because jewellers across the UAE follow the same reference rates. What changes from shop to shop is the making charge, not the gold rate.

Where to Buy Gold in Dubai

  • Dubai Gold Souk, Deira: the city’s famous covered gold market, with hundreds of jewellery shops in a few streets. The nearest metro stop is Gold Souq station on the Green Line; check the Dubai Metro timings before you go.
  • Gold and Diamond Park, Al Quoz: a quieter complex of jewellers and manufacturers, popular for custom pieces.
  • Shopping malls: international and Indian jewellery chains in every major mall, with the same reference gold rates.

Where to Buy Gold in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah

  • Abu Dhabi: Madinat Zayed Shopping and Gold Centre is the capital’s best-known gold market, alongside jewellers in the main malls.
  • Sharjah: the Central Souq, known for its blue-tiled design, has a large cluster of gold and jewellery shops.

Is Gold Cheaper in Dubai?

Dubai is one of the most competitive places in the world to buy gold jewellery, because:

  • The gold rate is transparent and published several times a day.
  • Competition is intense, which keeps making charges low, especially in the Gold Souk.
  • Purity is regulated, with karat stamps on jewellery.
  • Tourists can claim back VAT on eligible jewellery purchases when they leave the country.

Whether it’s cheaper than in your home country depends on local taxes, import duties and making charges there.

Making Charges, VAT and Your Final Price

The price you pay for gold jewellery in the UAE has three parts:

Final price = gold rate × weight + making charges + 5% VAT

Worked Example: Buying 10 Grams of 22K Gold

Using the 22K reference rate of AED 461.50 per gram from the morning of 7 October 2026, and an example making charge of AED 15 per gram:

Item Calculation Amount
Gold value 10 g × AED 461.50 AED 4,615.00
Making charge 10 g × AED 15 AED 150.00
Subtotal AED 4,765.00
VAT at 5% AED 4,765 × 0.05 AED 238.25
Total AED 5,003.25
Where the AED 5,003.25 goes10 grams of 22K gold at AED 461.50 a gram, with a making charge of AED 15 a gram.
Gold value
Gold value AED 4,615.00Making charge AED 150.00VAT AED 238.25

Making Charges

Making charges cover the work of turning gold into jewellery. They vary widely:

  • Lowest for simple machine-made chains, coins and bars
  • Higher for handcrafted, intricate or branded designs
  • Highest for pieces set with diamonds or gemstones

Making charges are usually quoted per gram or as a flat fee. They’re often negotiable, especially in the Gold Souk and during shopping festivals. The gold calculator in the live panel adds the gold value, making charge and VAT together for any weight and karat, so you can check a quote before you pay.

VAT on Gold in the UAE

According to the UAE Federal Tax Authority, VAT on gold works like this:

  • Gold jewellery: standard-rated at 5% VAT.
  • Investment gold: zero-rated, when it is 99% pure or more and in a form tradable on the international bullion market, such as bars and coins.
  • Business purchases: VAT-registered businesses buying gold for resale use a reverse charge mechanism, introduced by Cabinet Decision No. 25 of 2018.
  • Tourists: visitors can claim a VAT refund on eligible purchases from participating retailers when leaving the UAE, under the Tourist Refund Scheme.

How to Buy Gold Safely in the UAE

  • Check the karat stamp (999, 916, 875 or 750) on the piece.
  • Ask for the weight, and check it on the shop’s scale.
  • Get the gold rate, making charge and VAT itemised on the invoice.
  • Note the time of the rate. It may change between morning and evening.
  • Ask about the buyback policy before you buy.
  • Keep the invoice, which you’ll need for resale, exchange or a VAT refund.
  • Buy from established jewellers, especially for bars and coins.

Selling Gold in Dubai

When you sell gold jewellery in the UAE, jewellers usually pay the current gold rate for its purity, minus a deduction for testing, melting and their margin. Making charges are not refunded.

To get the best price

  • Bring your original invoice, and your Emirates ID or passport.
  • Compare offers from two or three jewellers.
  • Sell when the rate is high, using the live panel to track it.
  • Exchange instead of selling if you plan to buy new jewellery, as many jewellers offer better terms on exchanges.

Taking Gold Out of the UAE

  • UAE customs: travellers entering or leaving the UAE must declare cash, precious metals and precious stones worth more than AED 60,000, according to the UAE government portal.
  • Your destination country: each country sets its own duty-free limits. India, for example, has traditionally allowed returning residents who have lived abroad for more than a year a duty-free gold jewellery allowance of 20 grams for men and 40 grams for women, but it revised its baggage rules and gold duties in 2026. Always check the latest rules with your destination country’s customs authority before you fly.
  • Bars and coins are usually treated differently from jewellery and may be dutiable in full.

Silver Rate Today in UAE

The silver rate today is shown in the live panel, per gram and per kilo in AED.

Silver type Purity Hallmark Typical use
Fine silver 99.9% 999 Bars, coins, investment
Sterling silver 92.5% 925 Jewellery, cutlery, gifts
  • Silver jewellery carries 5% VAT.
  • Investment silver of 99% purity or more is zero-rated, like investment gold.
  • Silver is more volatile than gold, rising and falling faster in percentage terms.

Forex Rates Today: AED Exchange Rates in the UAE

This page brings gold and forex rates together, because for UAE residents the two are closely linked. The live panel shows today’s AED exchange rates for the currencies UAE residents use most, including the Indian rupee, Pakistani rupee, Philippine peso, Bangladeshi taka, Sri Lankan rupee, Nepalese rupee, Egyptian pound, British pound and euro.

Why the Dirham Moves With the US Dollar

The UAE dirham has been officially pegged to the US dollar at AED 3.6725 = US$1 since 1997. This means:

  • AED to USD never changes. One dollar is always about 3.67 dirhams.
  • AED against other currencies moves with the dollar. When the dollar strengthens against the Indian rupee, the dirham does too, and you get more rupees for every dirham.
  • Gold and forex are linked. Because the dirham tracks the dollar, the UAE gold rate follows the international gold price in dollars almost exactly.

How UAE Exchange Rates Are Set

Every exchange rate you see in the UAE starts from the interbank rate, also called the mid-market rate. This is the wholesale rate at which banks trade currencies with each other, and it’s the rate you see on financial websites and search engines.

  • The retail rate is what you actually get. Banks and exchange houses take the interbank rate and add a margin, so you receive slightly less foreign currency per dirham.
  • The transfer fee is charged on top by many providers. The margin plus the fee is the true cost of your transfer.
  • Rates move through the day, following the global currency market.
  • At the weekend, the global currency market is closed, so some providers hold their rates or widen their margins until Monday.
  • Exchange houses and banks offering money transfers in the UAE must be licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE.

Remittance Rate vs Cash Rate

Forex tables in the UAE often show different rates, which can be confusing:

Rate type What it means When it applies
Remittance or draft rate How much foreign currency your dirhams buy when you send money home Bank transfers and exchange house remittances
Cash buy rate What an exchange house pays you for foreign cash When you sell foreign notes
Cash sell rate What you pay for foreign cash When you buy foreign notes for travel

Rates are quoted two ways. Some tables show foreign currency per 1 AED (for example, rupees per dirham). Others show the dirham cost of 1,000 units of foreign currency. Always check which way a table is quoted before comparing.

AED Exchange Rates for Popular Currencies

The way each currency is managed at home affects how its rate against the dirham behaves:

Currency Code How it’s managed What it means when you send dirhams
Indian rupee INR Market-determined, with Reserve Bank of India intervention Moves daily against the dollar, and so against the dirham; India is the largest destination for money sent from the UAE
Pakistani rupee PKR Market-based, managed by the State Bank of Pakistan Can move sharply during economic stress
Philippine peso PHP Floating, managed by Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Moves gradually with the dollar
Bangladeshi taka BDT Crawling peg, introduced by Bangladesh Bank in May 2024 Moves within a band set by the central bank
Sri Lankan rupee LKR Floated in 2022 during Sri Lanka’s economic crisis Can be volatile
Nepalese rupee NPR Pegged to the Indian rupee at NPR 1.60 = INR 1 since the early 1990s AED to NPR moves in step with AED to INR
Egyptian pound EGP Flexible exchange rate since 2024 Has seen large moves in recent years
US dollar USD Fixed against the dirham Always about AED 3.6725 per dollar
British pound and euro GBP, EUR Free-floating Move with global markets

A simple rule: because the dirham is tied to the dollar, any currency that weakens against the dollar also weakens against the dirham. That means more rupees, pesos or taka for every dirham you send.

How Much Does a Small Rate Difference Cost?

The rate and the fee together decide how much arrives. Here’s an example of sending AED 5,000 to India using two providers, with illustrative rates:

Provider A Provider B
Exchange rate 26.20 rupees per dirham 26.10 rupees per dirham
Transfer fee AED 15 + 5% VAT = AED 15.75 No fee
Total you pay AED 5,015.75 AED 5,000.00
Recipient gets 131,000 rupees 130,500 rupees
Rupees per dirham you actually spend 26.12 26.10

Provider A charges a fee but still delivers 500 rupees more, because its rate is better. A difference of just 0.10 in the rate is worth 500 rupees on a AED 5,000 transfer, or about 6,000 rupees a year if you send that amount every month.

The lesson: compare the amount the recipient receives for the same number of dirhams, not the rate or the fee alone. The currency converter in the live panel shows the mid-market amount for any sum, which is the benchmark to measure each provider’s offer against.

Exchange House vs Bank vs App

Option Exchange rate Fees Speed Best for
Exchange house branch Often competitive on popular routes Usually a flat fee Minutes to one day Cash transfers, cash pickup, people without a bank account
Exchange house app Often the best rates Low or none on some routes Often instant to bank accounts and wallets Regular remittances
Bank transfer Usually lower than exchange houses Can be higher, especially by international wire Same day to a few days Large amounts, business payments, less common currencies

When Is the Best Time to Send Money?

Nobody can reliably predict daily currency moves, but these habits help:

  • Compare on the day you send. Rates differ between providers by more than they move in a typical day.
  • Send on a weekday if your provider widens margins at the weekend.
  • Plan around peak periods. Demand rises around salary days at the end and start of the month, and before Eid, Diwali and other festivals; the UAE public holidays calendar shows when the busiest periods fall.
  • Use rate alerts in exchange house apps to send when your target rate is reached.
  • Don’t wait too long for a perfect rate if the money is needed; small gains rarely outweigh the cost of delay.

VAT and Fees on Money Transfers

  • Transfer fees charged by banks and exchange houses carry 5% VAT.
  • The exchange margin built into the rate isn’t charged VAT separately.
  • Cash-to-cash transfers often cost more than transfers into bank accounts or mobile wallets.

UAE Remittances in Numbers

The UAE is one of the world’s largest sources of money sent home by foreign workers:

  • About US$43 billion was sent abroad from the UAE in 2023, according to World Bank estimates.
  • India is the largest destination. India received a record US$129.4 billion in remittances from around the world in 2024, according to the World Bank, with the UAE among its biggest sources.

How to Get a Better Exchange Rate

  • Compare the full cost, including the transfer fee, not just the rate.
  • Use licensed exchange houses and banks, regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE.
  • Check app rates. Exchange house apps often offer better remittance rates than branches; if you use LuLu Money, the LuLu balance check guide shows how to keep track of your card balance.
  • Check your balance first. Make sure your account has enough funds before you transfer; the ATM balance check guide covers the free ways to check it.
  • Avoid airport exchange counters for large amounts, where rates are usually less favourable.

Gold Forex Trading in the UAE: The XAU/USD Rate

On forex trading platforms, gold is quoted as XAU/USD, where XAU is the international code for one troy ounce of gold. The forex gold rate is simply the live price of one ounce in US dollars, the same spot price shown in the live panel.

  • What traders do: buy or sell XAU/USD through contracts for difference (CFDs), aiming to profit from price moves without owning physical gold.
  • Leverage cuts both ways: trading with borrowed money magnifies profits and losses, and losses can build quickly in a volatile market.
  • Check the licence: in the UAE, forex and CFD brokers are regulated by the Securities and Commodities Authority onshore, the Dubai Financial Services Authority in the Dubai International Financial Centre, and the Financial Services Regulatory Authority in Abu Dhabi Global Market. Only use a broker licensed by one of them.
  • Physical gold is different: buying bars, coins or jewellery means you own the metal outright, with no leverage and no risk of a margin call.

Is Gold a Good Investment in the UAE?

Gold has long been used to preserve wealth, and its rise to record highs in 2025 and 2026 has drawn many new buyers. If you’re considering it:

  • Bars and coins carry lower making charges than jewellery and are zero-rated for VAT at 99% purity.
  • Jewellery is the most expensive way to invest, because making charges and VAT are rarely recovered when you sell.
  • Gold can fall as well as rise. It dropped sharply after past peaks and can take years to recover.
  • Storage matters. Keep large holdings in a secure safe or a bank safe deposit box.

This information is general and isn’t financial advice. Consider your own situation, or speak to a licensed financial adviser, before investing.

Seasonal buying: demand and promotions peak during the Dubai Shopping Festival, Eid, Diwali and Akshaya Tritiya, when jewellers often run raffles and reduced making charges. Check the UAE public holidays calendar to plan around the busiest periods.
