Best Car Insurance Companies in UAE and Dubai (2026)

Ratings, ownership and motor features checked against insurers’ own pages, AM Best and S&P announcements, and 2025 to 2026 financial results, October 2026. Features change between plans, so confirm the policy wording before you buy.

Every UAE insurer must price car insurance inside the same Central Bank range. So the cheapest quote rarely decides which company is best. What matters is what happens after an accident: whether the insurer can pay, how long it repairs your car at the dealer, whether Oman is covered and how fast a replacement car arrives. This guide compares the best car insurance companies in Dubai and across the UAE on those points, using 2025 and 2026 ratings and results.

How This Comparison Works

The 8 insurers below are listed in order of financial strength, the clearest public measure of an insurer’s ability to pay claims. Each one was then compared on 4 more points:

  • Agency repair period: How many years the brand’s dealer repairs your car
  • Oman and GCC cover: Included, optional or not offered
  • Extras: Roadside assistance, replacement car, personal accident and flood cover
  • Digital service: Online purchase, renewal and claims tracking

Prices are not compared, because every insurer prices inside the same Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) range. The official limits and discounts are covered in the UAE car insurance guide.

1. Tokio Marine (UAE Branch)

Japan’s Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance has operated in the UAE since 1976, with Al-Futtaim as its local agent. Its parent holds an AM Best A++ (Superior) rating, affirmed in September 2025. That is the highest financial strength rating among the insurers in this guide.

Comprehensive plans include free 24/7 roadside assistance, rental car cover, storm and flood cover, and a new car if yours is written off in its first 6 months. Oman cover is own damage only, so Oman third party cover is bought at the border.

2. Orient Insurance (Al-Futtaim)

Orient Insurance is the largest insurer in the UAE by insurance service revenue, according to AM Best in July 2026. The Al-Futtaim Group owns it, and its shares trade on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM: ORIENT).

Oriental Car Insurance: Orient vs The Oriental Insurance Company

Many drivers search for “oriental car insurance” and mean 1 of 2 different companies:

  • Orient Insurance (Al-Futtaim) is active and sells car insurance online in the UAE.
  • The Oriental Insurance Company, owned by the Government of India, put its Dubai office into run-off on 7 August 2025 after a Central Bank suspension. It sells no new UAE motor policies, but existing policies are serviced until they expire. Its customer care line is 800 628873.

If you hold an Oriental Insurance Company policy, move to another insurer at renewal and take your no-claims letter with you.

3. GIG Gulf (Formerly AXA Gulf)

GIG car insurance replaced AXA car insurance in the UAE. Gulf Insurance Group completed its purchase of AXA Gulf on 7 September 2021, in a US$474.75 million deal that also covered AXA’s Saudi business. The AXA brand ended in the UAE in June 2022, and AXA-branded policies stayed valid until they expired.

How to Choose the Best Car Insurance in Dubai

The best car insurance in Dubai depends on your car’s age and how you drive. Use these 5 rules:

  1. New car (under 3 years): Choose comprehensive cover with agency repair.
  2. Car aged 3 to 6 years: Choose comprehensive cover with approved garage repair to save on the premium.
  3. Older, low-value car: Third party cover usually makes more sense.
  4. Regular Oman trips: Pick an insurer that includes Oman own-damage cover.
  5. Large SUV used off-road: Check for off-road cover, because the standard policy excludes it.

Always read the excess, the agency repair period and the replacement car limit before you pay.

How to Switch Car Insurance Companies

Switching insurers keeps your discount if you follow 4 steps:

  1. Ask your current insurer for a free claims-experience (no-claims) letter.
  2. Compare quotes 2 to 4 weeks before your policy ends.
  3. Buy the new policy with your Emirates ID, licence, Mulkiya and no-claims letter.
  4. Confirm the new policy appears on your vehicle record.

The guide to check insurance status shows how to confirm it on the RTA, TAMM and MOI apps.
