Hafilat Fare Calculator and Intercity Bus Finder

Based on Abu Dhabi Mobility's published fares. Updated October 2026.

AED 2.50estimated fare

Hafilat charges by the distance between your tap-in and tap-out stops, so your real fare can differ slightly. Intercity routes such as Al Ain and Al Dhafra coaches use separate fares.

Fares, passes and timetables checked against Abu Dhabi Mobility and RTA, October 2026.

A bus ride across Abu Dhabi island costs AED 2 to AED 5. The same 30-minute trip by taxi often costs AED 25 or more. Every major route meets at one hub: Abu Dhabi Bus Station in Al Nahyan, the starting point for city buses and for intercity buses to Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain. The catch is that the network is big. It has more than 100 routes, 5 bus types and 3 newer services, and its rules differ from Dubai’s. This guide covers every major route, the real fares, the main bus station and each intercity service. Use the tools at the top of this page to work out your Hafilat fare, see whether a pass saves you money and find the right intercity bus.

Types of Abu Dhabi Bus Lines

Abu Dhabi bus lines fall into 5 groups. Each group uses its own numbering pattern, so a route number tells you what kind of bus it is.

    • City buses (1 and 2-digit numbers): These run inside Abu Dhabi island. Examples are routes 5, 34 and 54.
    • Regional buses (3-digit numbers): These link the island with suburbs such as Mussafah, Khalifa City and MBZ City. Examples are 101, 160 and 170.
    • Express buses (X prefix): These make limited stops over long distances. Examples are X60 to Liwa, X88 to Ruwais and X90 to Al Ain.
    • Airport buses (A prefix): These serve Zayed International Airport. Examples are A1, A2 and A10.
    • Feeder buses (M, B and Q prefixes): These small Mini and Midi buses loop through neighbourhoods. Examples are M1 at Dalma Mall and Q3 at Rabdan.

Abu Dhabi Mobility also runs 3 newer services:

    • Abu Dhabi Link: An on-demand minibus booked in an app. It runs 6 am to 11 pm in zones such as Yas Island, Saadiyat Island and Al Shahama.
    • Automated Rapid Transit (ART): Electric, rail-less trams. The AR2 line links Louvre Abu Dhabi, teamLab Phenomena and Saadiyat Walk.
    • Abu Dhabi Express: Non-stop buses from suburbs such as Mussafah and Khalifa City to the main bus station.

    Abu Dhabi Bus Timings

Most Abu Dhabi bus timings run from about 5:30 am to around midnight. The official timetable for city route 8, for example, starts at 5:29 am and ends at 12:34 am, with buses every 15 minutes at weekday peaks and every 30 minutes at other times. The A1 and A2 airport buses run around the clock. Each route has its own timetable, so check the exact times in Darbi.

Service type Typical hours Typical frequency
City routes About 5:30 am to midnight Every 15 min at weekday peaks, 30 min off-peak
Regional routes Early morning to late night Varies by route
Airport routes A1, A2 24 hours Varies by time of day
Feeder Mini and Midi buses Early morning to evening Varies by route
Abu Dhabi Link (on-demand) 6 am to 11 pm Booked in app
ART AR2 (Saadiyat) 8 am to 10 pm About every 30 min

Weekday peaks are about 7 am to 9:30 am and 4 pm to 7 pm, when route 8 doubles its buses. Buses are full and roads are slow then. Abu Dhabi Mobility changes the Abu Dhabi bus schedule during Ramadan, Eid and National Day. Intercity routes can change too: during Eid Al Fitr 2026, RTA suspended E100 from Al Ghubaiba and ran Abu Dhabi trips through E101 at Ibn Battuta and E102 at Al Jafiliya instead. Check the dates on the UAE public holidays calendar before you plan around a holiday.

    Abu Dhabi Bus Timings App

Darbi is the official Abu Dhabi bus timings app. It shows the full bus schedule in Abu Dhabi, the live bus location, the next arrivals at each stop, the walking route to the stop and the fare. Darbi works on iPhone, Android and Huawei phones. Google Maps also shows Abu Dhabi bus routes and real-time arrivals. Many bus stops have a QR code: scan it to see the next Abu Dhabi bus time from that stop.

    Three other apps help:

    • TAMM: Recharge your Hafilat card and pay public transport fines.
    • Abu Dhabi Link: Book the on-demand minibus.
    • S’hail: See timetables for RTA buses between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

    Abu Dhabi Bus Fares

Abu Dhabi bus fares follow a distance formula: AED 2 when you board, plus 5 fils for every kilometre. No single journey costs more than AED 5. Children aged 10 and under ride free.

The fare rules below are the official “Basic Service” tariff. It covers journeys within the city and suburbs of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.

    Fare rule Official amount
    Boarding fee AED 2
Distance charge 5 fils per km
Maximum fare AED 5 (reached on trips longer than 60 km)
Children aged 10 and under Free
Al Ain and Al Dhafra intercity buses AED 30 to AED 40 (separate fare)
Abu Dhabi to Dubai (E100, E101, E102) AED 25 (separate fare)

The examples below are worked out with the official formula. Your real fare depends on the exact distance between your tap-in and tap-out stops.

    Trip distance Worked fare
    5 km AED 2.25
    10 km AED 2.50
    20 km AED 3.00
    40 km AED 4.00
60 km or more AED 5.00 (cap)

    Free Transfers

Transfers between buses are free. You don’t pay the AED 2 boarding fee again if you follow 3 rules:

    1. Tap in on the next bus within 60 minutes of your last tap-out.
    2. Don’t switch to the opposite direction of your destination.
    3. Use no more than 2 transfers, which means 3 buses in total.

Intercity buses are not part of this transfer rule.

Hafilat Card Prices, Passes and Permits

The Hafilat card is the smart card for every Abu Dhabi bus. It came in 2015 to replace paper tickets. Tap the card on the reader when you board and again when you get off. If you skip the tap-out, the system charges the full route fare on your next use.

Product Price Validity Who it’s for
Anonymous Hafilat card AED 10 16 years Anyone, tourists included
Personalised Hafilat card Free 16 years Residents and visitors with ID
7-day pass AED 35 7 days Unlimited city and suburb trips

People of Determination permit Free, plus 1 free companion 1 year Holders of an Aounak or PoD card

Passes and permits cover the city and suburbs of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra. They don’t cover intercity buses. The personalised card lets you move your balance to a new card if you lose the old one.

You can buy or recharge a Hafilat card in 5 places:

    • Customer Happiness Offices: At bus stations and at Zayed International Airport.
    • Ticket vending machines: At major stops and malls, including Abu Dhabi Mall and Yas Mall.

    • TAMM app: For online recharge.

    Dubai to Abu Dhabi Bus

The Dubai to Abu Dhabi bus is run by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Three routes link Dubai with Abu Dhabi, and each costs AED 25 one way. A fourth route, E201, links Dubai with Al Ain.

Route Dubai stop Abu Dhabi stop Travel time First bus Frequency
E100 Al Ghubaiba Bus Station Abu Dhabi Bus Station About 2 hr 15 min About 4:20 am Every 20 to 40 min
E101 Ibn Battuta Bus Station Abu Dhabi Bus Station About 1 hr 30 min About 4:30 am Every 20 to 30 min

E201 Al Ghubaiba Bus Station Al Ain Central Bus Station About 2 hr Early morning About every hour

E101 is the fastest choice. Ibn Battuta is in the far south of Dubai near Jebel Ali, so the bus skips most of the city traffic before it reaches the highway to Abu Dhabi. E100 from Al Ghubaiba suits people staying in Bur Dubai or Deira. Both stations sit next to metro stops: Ibn Battuta on the Red Line and Al Ghubaiba on the Green Line. Check the Dubai Metro timings before you leave, because the metro starts at 8 am on Sundays.

Dubai to Abu Dhabi Bus Ticket Price

Do a quick Nol card balance check before you go, because ticket machines at Al Ghubaiba have long queues on Friday evenings. You can also book online through the RTA website.
